The Urban Planning and Architecture Collection was established in 1959 with the aim of collecting and preserving materials that serve as evidence of Belgrade’s architectural and urban development. The architectural and urban plans of the city, projects for buildings, as well as numerous archival documents, drawings, manuscripts, photographs and postcards with the images of Belgrade have been assembled through purchase and gifts made by state institutions or individuals.

The following holdings and collections make distinct units

• The Archives of the Construction Committee, which contains plans and archival documents on the buildings constructed between 1898 and 1914.
• Collection of the plans of Belgrade from 1865 to 1950; a particularly important segments of this collection are the cadastral plans from 1930–1932 and the 1923 Belgrade Master Plan.
• Holdings dedicated to the architects Konstantin Jovanović, Nikola Nestorović, Danilo and Vladislav Vladisavljević, Dušan Mirosavljević and Svetomir Lazić.
• A collection of postcards with the images of Belgrade printed between 1899 and the 1980s.
• Photographs of the 19th-century Belgrade, including photographs made by Anastas Jovanović, I. В. Groman and Milan Jovanović.
• Jeremija Stanojević's Fund, with more than 2,000 photographs of Belgrade made in 1929–1932.
• Photographs from the archives of the Construction Department showing the residential houses pulled down in Belgrade between 1935 and 1941.
• Photographs of Belgrade from the period of rebuilding after World War II, including photographs by Branibor Debeljković, Miloš Pavlović, Branko Turin and Raca Bulatović.
